The entrance test is normally held in the month of December.
Aspiring candidates can obtain prospectus and application forms from any of the Rashtriya Military Schools.

The age limits as of 01 July the academic year are as follows:
- For class 6th – 10 to 11 years
- For class 9th – 13 to 14 years
NVST 2022 class 6th exam will be an objective type question paper. It will have three sections or subjects namely mental ability, language test and arithmetic test. Questions will be asked in multiple languages depending upon the state of the candidate. There is no provision for negative marks.
A candidate seeking admission must be between the age group 13-16 years on 1st May of the year of admission for which the Selection Test is conducted. This is applicable to all categories of candidates including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
Age Limit- Student’s age should be between 13-15 years, as on March 31, 2022. The student should have been born between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2009 (including both days) for the academic year 2022-23
Admission process:
Sainik Schools admit boys in classes VI & IX on the basis of their merit in the Entrance Examination and an Interview and in Class XI boys are admitted on the basis of the marks scored in Class X Board examination. Girl candidates are now eligible for admission to Class VI in all 33 Sainik Schools.
